As the year begins to slow, and the calendar fills with familiar gatherings, many of us find ourselves pausing in quieter moments. Between wrapping gifts, planning meals, and reconnecting with loved ones, the holiday season invites reflection. Not only on traditions, but on what this time of year is teaching us right now.
This season, each of us at SFS has found ourselves reflecting on something a little different. Together, those reflections form a picture of what the holidays mean to us today.
John has been reflecting on continuity. As the years pass, he finds comfort in the steady rhythms and traditions of the season. They remind him that some things are meant to endure, offering stability and meaning even as life changes around them.

Angela has been reflecting on togetherness. As she settles into the season, she notices how powerful shared experiences can be. Singing familiar songs, enjoying simple treats, and gathering with family feels less like tasks and more like opportunities. They create warmth that lingers well beyond the holiday itself.

Daniel has been reflecting on joy. Games around the table, laughter, and friendly competition have reminded him that joy is often found in shared moments. This season has reinforced his appreciation for community and the way simple fun can bring people closer.

Allye has been reflecting on connection across time. Writing notes in books and Christmas cards allows her to capture moments as they are. These words become markers of where life was in that moment, carrying love, reflection, and memory from one year to the next.
Noah has been reflecting on legacy. Reading the story of Jesus’ birth on Christmas Eve and gathering with extended family feels especially meaningful this year. He has been thinking about how traditions are carried forward, not just through routines, but through intention and presence.

Carl has been reflecting on balance. Staying active during the holidays helps him feel grounded, while intentionally spending time with friends and family keeps his relationships strong. For him, the season is about caring for both body and connection, recognizing that each supports the other.

Kenny has been reflecting on simplicity. With one of his daughters now in college, he feels a deeper pull toward traditions that connect him to nature and to his own childhood. Even small details, like hanging mistletoe, serve as reminders that meaning does not have to be complicated. Often, it comes from slowing down and honoring where you came from.

Carrie has been reflecting on generosity. Living in Florida, she spends the holidays with her parents and her dogs, enjoying a slower pace that allows her to be intentional. She finds joy in thoughtful gift-giving and in choosing items that show care and attention. For her, the season is a reminder that generosity is not just about the gift itself, but about the thought and love behind it.
As we settle into this holiday season, we are reminded that traditions do not just look backward. They also shape how we experience the present. Reflection helps us notice what matters most and carry that awareness into the year ahead.
